Fried Eggs

Fried eggs are a breakfast classic and one of the simplest and quickest ways to cook eggs. Here’s how to prepare them:

Ingredients

  • Eggs (as many as you like)
  • Extra virgin olive oil or butter (depending on personal taste)
  • Salt
  • Pepper (optional)

Preparation

  1. Heat a pan over medium heat and add a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil or a knob of butter.
  2. Wait until the fat is very hot; you can check the temperature of the oil/butter by throwing in a small piece of bread: if it sizzles, you’re ready.
  3. Gently crack the eggs and pour them into the pan, being careful not to break the yolks.
  4. Salt and, if desired, add a bit of pepper.
  5. Cook for about 2-3 minutes if you prefer a soft yolk or longer if you want it well-cooked; you can cover the pan with a lid to speed up cooking.
  6. Once the desired doneness is reached, use a spatula to gently lift the eggs from the pan and transfer them to a plate.

Fun Facts

Fried eggs are a versatile dish that can be enriched with ingredients like cheese, aromatic herbs or toppings like sliced avocado and smoked salmon. Additionally, they can be used as a base for an English breakfast, complete with bacon, sausages and grilled tomatoes or as a simple and tasty meal accompanied by a slice of toast.
