Green Apple Sorbet

I can suggest a recipe for a refreshing and pleasant green apple sorbet.

Ingredients

  • 500 g green apples (Granny Smith type)
  • 150 g sugar
  • 200 ml water
  • The juice of 1 lemon
  • Some mint leaves for decoration (optional)

Preparation

  1. Wash the apples, peel them, remove the core and cut them into cubes.
  2. In a saucepan, make a syrup by bringing the water with the sugar to a boil. Stir until the sugar has completely dissolved, then let cool.
  3. Blend the apple cubes with the lemon juice until you obtain a homogeneous mixture.
  4. Add the cold syrup to the apple mixture and mix well.
  5. Pour the mixture into an ice cream maker following the machine’s instructions or if you don’t have an ice cream maker, put the mixture in a container and place it in the freezer.
  6. If using the freezer, stir the sorbet every 30-40 minutes for the first 3 hours, to avoid the formation of ice crystals and obtain a soft consistency.
  7. Once the sorbet has reached the desired consistency, it is ready to be served.
  8. Serve the sorbet in bowls, decorating with mint leaves if you wish to add a touch of color and freshness.

You can customize this sorbet by adding flavors or spices, such as cinnamon or vanilla, or a bit of fresh ginger for a spicy note. Remember that the best consistency of the sorbet is obtained using an ice cream maker, but good results can also be achieved with the manual method with a little more effort.

Fun Fact

The sorbet is a very ancient dessert and its origins are thought to date back to the time of the Roman Empire, when it was prepared by cooling fruit juices and wine with snow. It is a preparation much loved in Italy, especially in summer, for its ability to refresh and delight the palate.
