Homemade Beef Burgers
28/11/2023Homemade beef burgers are a timeless classic and with a few touches from Italian tradition they can be transformed into a gourmet dish. Here is a basic recipe for preparing beef burgers, with different cooking options in a pan, on a griddle, and in the oven.
Ingredients
- 500 g ground beef (preferably with a fat content of 15-20% for more flavor)
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
- Optional: spices or aromatic herbs to taste (such as paprika, garlic powder, onion powder)
Preparation
- Mixing: In a bowl, mix the ground meat with salt and pepper. If desired, add other spices or aromatic herbs as well.
- Forming the burgers: Divide the mixture into 4 equal parts (about 125 g each). Shape each portion into a ball and then gently flatten it to form patties about 2 cm thick. Be sure not to overwork the mixture to maintain texture and flavor.
Cooking
In a pan or on a griddle
- Heat a pan (preferably cast iron) or griddle over medium-high heat.
- Cook the burgers for about 3-4 minutes per side for rare or medium, and 5-6 minutes per side for well done.
In the oven
- Preheat the oven to 200 °C.
- Place the burgers on a baking tray lined with parchment paper and cook for about 10-15 minutes, turning halfway through, until the desired doneness.
Tips
- Avoid pressing down on the burgers while they cook, to keep the juices inside.
- Let the burgers rest for a couple of minutes before serving to allow the juices to redistribute.
Homemade beef burgers are versatile and can be adapted to various tastes and preferences. The choice of spices, degree of doneness, and cooking method can be adjusted according to your personal preferences.
Fun Facts
The hamburger is a dish that has become a symbol of American cuisine, but its origins are anything but clear. The name suggests a connection to the city of Hamburg, in Germany, from which the immigrants who brought the recipe to America would have come. However, today every country has its own variant, and in Italy it is not uncommon to find burgers rich in Mediterranean flavors such as sun-dried tomatoes, basil, and buffalo mozzarella.
