Homemade Sweet Peaches with Chocolate
17/11/2023Sweet chocolate peaches are a delicious dessert that is not too complex to prepare. Here is the recipe:
Ingredients
- 4 ripe but still firm peaches
- 150 g dark chocolate
- 2 tablespoons of sugar (optional, according to taste)
- 1 knob of butter
- A pinch of cinnamon (optional)
- Powdered sugar (for serving)
- Fresh mint leaves (for garnish, optional)
Preparation
- Start by preheating the oven to 180 °C.
- Wash the peaches and cut them in half, removing the pit. If you wish to place the peaches in the baking dish and cook them whole, you could cut a small portion from the bottom so they stand upright.
- Arrange the peach halves cut side up on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, break the dark chocolate into pieces and add the knob of butter. Melt the chocolate in a double boiler or in the microwave, stirring occasionally until you obtain a homogeneous mixture. Add the cinnamon if desired, for a spicy touch.
- If you prefer the peaches a bit sweeter, sprinkle them lightly with sugar before adding the chocolate.
- Fill the cavities of the peaches with the melted chocolate.
- Bake the peaches in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes, or until they are tender but not falling apart.
- Once cooked, remove them from the oven and let them cool slightly for a few minutes.
- Serve them dusted with powdered sugar and garnished with fresh mint leaves, if desired.
This simple and tasty recipe highlights the delicate sweetness of the peaches in contrast with the intense flavor of dark chocolate, through cooking that enhances flavors and textures.
Fun Fact: This dessert can be a variant of a more typical Italian sweet, stuffed peaches, which are usually filled with amaretti and cocoa, and which reflect the Italian ability to play with flavors and textures to create unique dishes. Note that, like many Italian recipes, this one allows for great customization: you could also add chopped dried fruit, candied orange peels, or a splash of liqueur to the filling to further enrich the flavor.
