Mummy Hot Dogs

The Mummy Hot Dogs are cute culinary creations that evoke the image of mummies, using hot dogs wrapped in strips of dough. They are a fun idea to prepare especially on occasions like themed parties, for example during Halloween. Here is the recipe:

Ingredients

  • Hot dogs (sausages) - as many as you wish to serve
  • Pizza dough or puff pastry - enough to wrap all the hot dogs
  • Mustard or ketchup - for the eyes
  • 1 egg (optional, to brush the hot dogs if using puff pastry)

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 °C (350 °F).
  2. Roll out the pizza dough or unroll the puff pastry, then cut it into thin strips.
  3. Dry the hot dogs with paper towels and start wrapping them with the strips of dough leaving a bit of space at the top to make the mummy’s “eyes”.
  4. If you are using puff pastry and want a more intense browning, beat an egg and gently brush it over the dough wrapped around the hot dogs.
  5. Place the mummy hot dogs on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
  6. Bake and cook for about 10-15 minutes or until the dough is golden and crispy.
  7. Once cooked, use a bit of mustard or ketchup to make the little eyes on the mummies.
  8. Serve the mummy hot dogs hot and enjoy the fun!
