Stuffed Figs

Stuffed figs are a sweet and delicious bite that can serve as either a dessert or a sophisticated appetizer, depending on how they are presented. Here is the Italian recipe for preparing stuffed figs:

Ingredients

  • 12 fresh figs
  • 150 g fresh ricotta or mascarpone
  • 30 g chopped walnuts
  • 1 tablespoon of honey
  • A pinch of cinnamon (optional)
  • Grated zest of 1 orange (optional)
  • A small glass of sweet liqueur (such as rum or marsala, optional)

Preparation

  1. Gently wash the figs and dry them with a soft cloth.
  2. Cut off the top cap or make a cross incision on the upper part, being careful not to cut all the way through, so you can “open” them like a flower.
  3. In a bowl, mix the ricotta or mascarpone with the chopped walnuts, honey, and, if desired, a pinch of cinnamon and the grated orange zest to add more aroma. If you want to add an alcoholic touch, also incorporate the liqueur.
  4. Gently fill the figs with the ricotta or mascarpone mixture using a teaspoon or a piping bag.
  5. Arrange the stuffed figs on a serving plate and, if desired, decorate with a drizzle of honey and additional chopped walnuts.

These stuffed figs offer a balanced mix of natural sweetness and creamy flavor. If you prefer, you can also wrap the figs in a thin slice of cured ham for a tasty variation that combines sweet with savory.
