Baked Swordfish with Potatoes

Baked swordfish with potatoes is a delicious and simple-to-prepare Mediterranean second course. I will provide you with a recipe with an Italian touch.

Ingredients

  • 4 swordfish steaks (about 200 g each)
  • 800 g potatoes
  • 1 garlic clove
  • A few tablespoons of breadcrumbs
  • Fresh parsley to taste
  • Dried oregano to taste
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste
  • Extra virgin olive oil to taste
  • Lemon juice
  • Grated zest of 1 lemon (untreated)
  • Pitted black olives (optional)

Preparation

  1. Prepare the swordfish: Preheat the oven to 180 °C. Meanwhile, wash the swordfish steaks and pat them dry with paper towels. Place them in a bowl, season with lemon juice, a drizzle of oil, salt, pepper and let marinate for about 15 minutes.

  2. Prepare the potatoes: Peel the potatoes and cut them into slices about 5 mm thick. Blanch them in boiling salted water for about 5 minutes, then drain and let cool slightly.

  3. Season the potatoes: In a bowl, mix the potatoes with a drizzle of oil, salt, pepper, chopped parsley, oregano, and minced garlic or garlic powder (according to your preference).

  4. Assemble the dish: Grease a baking dish with a drizzle of oil and spread a first layer of potatoes. Place the swordfish steaks on top and sprinkle the surface of the steaks with breadcrumbs, grated lemon zest and, if desired, add some chopped black olives.

  5. Cooking: Bake and cook for about 20 minutes or until the potatoes are golden and the swordfish is cooked to perfection.

Trivia: Swordfish is a fish with a bold and meaty flavor, known in kitchens throughout the Mediterranean. It is rich in proteins and omega-3, contributing to a healthy and balanced diet. The pairing with potatoes is classic but always appreciated for their simplicity and versatility in completing meat or fish-based dishes.

Enjoy your meal and happy cooking!
