Pasta Mummies
17/11/2023The “Pasta Mummies” are a fun festive themed dish, often associated with Halloween or other celebrations. It usually consists of pasta wrapped in a way that resembles bandages, like a mummy. I can propose an Italian version of the concept, which could be tagliatelle wrapped around sausages to create a similar effect. Here’s how you can prepare them:
Ingredients
- Pork sausages (or a vegetarian substitute)
- Egg tagliatelle
- Tomato sauce (homemade or store-bought)
- Mozzarella
- Black olives (for the mummies’ eyes)
Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 180 °C.
- In a pan, lightly cook the sausages on each side until golden; they should not be fully cooked since they will finish cooking in the oven.
- Once cooled, wrap some tagliatelle around each sausage to create the mummy bandage effect, leaving space for the eyes.
- Arrange the pasta-wrapped sausages in a baking dish.
- Pour a little tomato sauce over or around the sausages so the pasta does not dry out during cooking.
- Cut the mozzarella into small pieces for the eyes and place a piece on each designated eye space on the mummies.
- Bake for about 15-20 minutes or until the pasta is golden and the mozzarella has melted.
- To finish, place half a black olive on top of each mozzarella piece to complete the mummies’ eyes.
This dish is not only delicious, but it’s also a great way to entertain children or add a festive touch to a themed dinner. Adults can enjoy it equally, perhaps pairing the dish with a light red wine.
