Salmon Hamburger

Let’s see how to give an Italian twist to a dish of foreign origin like the salmon hamburger. Here I propose a simple and tasty recipe:

Ingredients

  • 500 g fresh salmon
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons breadcrumbs
  • 2 tablespoons grated cheese (Parmesan or Pecorino)
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons chopped chives
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Extra virgin olive oil for cooking

Preparation

  1. Start by removing the skin and any bones from the fresh salmon. Then, cut the salmon into small cubes or coarsely chop it with a knife. It is important not to chop the fish too finely to maintain some texture.
  2. In a bowl, combine the chopped salmon, egg, breadcrumbs, grated cheese, chopped onion, and chives. Add salt and pepper to taste.
  3. Mix all the ingredients well until you obtain a homogeneous mixture. If necessary, add more breadcrumbs to achieve the right consistency.
  4. Form hamburgers with the mixture, using wet hands to prevent sticking.
  5. Heat a drizzle of olive oil in a non-stick pan and, once hot, cook the salmon hamburgers for about 3-4 minutes per side or until golden brown and cooked to the desired doneness.
  6. Drain on paper towels to remove excess oil before serving.

Curiosities

The salmon hamburger is a reinterpretation of the classic hamburger and represents an excellent alternative for those who want a lighter meal rich in Omega-3. In Italy we could consider it a sophisticated variant of the burger, which we often enrich with Mediterranean flavors like Parmesan and chives to enhance its taste.

Serve these salmon hamburgers with a side of fresh salad or, if you want to stay on an Italian theme, with a vegetable caponata or grilled zucchini. Enjoy your meal!
