Sicilian Sausages
17/11/2023Here is the traditional recipe for Sicilian sausages.
Ingredients
- 4 pork sausages
- 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
- 1 large sliced onion
- 2 minced garlic cloves
- 1 red bell pepper cut into strips
- 1 yellow bell pepper cut into strips
- 400 g canned peeled tomatoes
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- A pinch of chili (optional)
Preparation
- In a large skillet, heat the extra virgin olive oil and brown the sausages on all sides until golden. Once ready, set them aside.
- In the same skillet, add the sliced onion and minced garlic. Let them sauté until the onion becomes translucent.
- Add the bell peppers cut into strips and sauté until they soften slightly.
- Return the sausages to the skillet with the peppers, add the peeled tomatoes, salt, pepper, oregano and, if desired, a pinch of chili.
- Cover the skillet and cook over medium heat for about 20 minutes. If the sauce reduces too much, you can add a little water.
- Make sure the sausages are cooked through and the flavors are well combined.
Sicilian sausage is a very simple dish but with a bold character, thanks to the presence of oregano and onion. It can be served with a side of baked potatoes or fresh salad for a complete meal.
