Stuffed Panettone
17/11/2023Preparing a stuffed panettone is an excellent idea to give new life to this typical Italian Christmas cake, transforming it into a unique and delicious dessert.
Ingredients
- 1 traditional Panettone
- 500 ml of whipping cream
- 100 g of powdered sugar
- Vanilla beans or vanilla extract
- Candied fruit or fresh fruit to taste
- Chocolate chips or dark chocolate shavings
- Liquor to taste (for example, rum or alchermes) to soak the panettone
Preparation
- Start by cutting off the top of the panettone and set it aside. This will serve as a “lid” once the filling is complete.
- Hollow out the panettone by carefully removing the inside, leaving a layer about 2 cm thick attached to the crust to avoid breaking it. Crumble the removed interior and set it aside.
- Whip the cream with the powdered sugar and vanilla seeds until it is firm.
- If desired, at this point you can soak the inside of the hollowed panettone with a liquor of your choice to enrich the flavor.
- Take part of the whipped cream and mix it with the crumbled crumb, also adding candied fruit, fresh fruit pieces, and chocolate chips as you prefer.
- Fill the panettone with the cream and crumb mixture, pressing lightly to make everything adhere.
- Cover with the top of the panettone and let it rest in the refrigerator for at least an hour so it regains consistency and the cream sets.
- Before serving, decorate to taste with additional whipped cream, fruit, chocolate chips, or a dusting of powdered sugar.
Trivia
The stuffed panettone can be customized in many ways, for example by filling it with mascarpone cream for a result more similar to tiramisu, or with pastry cream for a more classic taste. It also lends itself well to the addition of aromatic liqueurs: one variation involves using Marsala to soak the inside or enrich the creams. What makes every stuffed panettone special is the ability to customize the ingredients according to personal tastes and creativity of the moment.
