Alcoholic Watermelon Popsicles

Alcoholic watermelon popsicles are a perfect choice for cooling off during the summer heat by adding an adult touch to the classic popsicle. Here’s how to make them:

Ingredients

  • 500 g of cleaned watermelon without seeds
  • 80-100 ml of vodka or white rum
  • 2 tablespoons of brown sugar (optional, depending on the sweetness of the watermelon)
  • The juice of 1 lime
  • A few fresh mint leaves (optional)

Preparation

  1. Start by blending the watermelon pulp until you obtain a liquid mixture.
  2. Add the vodka or white rum, lime juice, and brown sugar to the watermelon puree. If you have chosen to use mint as well, blend the leaves together with the other ingredients for a more intense aroma.
  3. Taste the mix to ensure it is to your liking in terms of sweetness and alcohol content. At this point, you can adjust by adding more sugar or alcohol if necessary.
  4. Pour the mixture into the popsicle molds, leaving a little space at the top for expansion during freezing.
  5. Insert the popsicle sticks and place the molds in the freezer.
  6. Let freeze for at least 4 hours or until the popsicles are completely solid.
  7. To serve, briefly run the mold under hot water to facilitate the extraction of the popsicles.

Remember that since they contain alcohol, these popsicles are intended exclusively for adults and the alcohol may delay the freezing process. Additionally, the alcohol content should not be excessive to ensure that the popsicles solidify well. Choose spirits that pair well with watermelon, such as vodka or white rum, which are quite neutral and do not overpower the taste of the watermelon.

Trivia

In some cultures, especially in the southern United States, the pairing of watermelon and alcohol is a classic of summer parties. Alcoholic popsicles are a modern take on this tradition, bringing a touch of sophistication and novelty to an already proven mix.
