Ingredients

  • 8 slices of sandwich bread without crust
  • 150 g of cooked ham slices
  • 150 g of sliced cheese (mozzarella, scamorza, fontina or other cheese that melts well)
  • 2 tablespoons of milk
  • 1 egg
  • Breadcrumbs as needed
  • Butter as needed
  • Salt as needed
  • Pepper as needed (optional)

Preparation

  1. Start by preheating the oven to 180 °C.
  2. Take the slices of sandwich bread and, with a rolling pin, flatten them slightly to make them more flexible.
  3. Place on the slices of sandwich bread first a slice of cooked ham and then one of cheese, leaving a small border free on the sides.
  4. Roll the stuffed bread onto itself, forming tight rolls.
  5. In a bowl, beat the egg with the milk, a pinch of salt and, if desired, a dusting of pepper.
  6. Dip the rolls in the beaten egg, making sure to coat them evenly.
  7. Then roll the rolls in breadcrumbs, ensuring they are completely covered.
  8. Arrange the rolls on a baking tray lined with parchment paper and place a small piece of butter on each roll, so they become golden and crispy during baking.
  9. Bake the rolls and cook them for about 15-20 minutes or until golden and the cheese inside has melted.
  10. Remove from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes before serving.
