Brownies

Here is a classic recipe for preparing delicious brownies:

Ingredients

  • 200 g dark chocolate
  • 150 g butter
  • 3 eggs
  • 200 g granulated sugar
  • 150 g flour
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • 100 g chopped walnuts (optional)

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 °C and line a square or rectangular baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a saucepan, melt the dark chocolate with the butter in a double boiler. Once melted, stir well and let cool.
  3. In a separate bowl, beat the eggs with the sugar until you obtain a light and frothy mixture.
  4. Add the cooled chocolate and butter mixture to the egg mixture.
  5. Add the sifted flour, salt, and, if desired, the vanilla extract. Mix gently until the ingredients are well combined.
  6. If you like walnuts, add them to the mixture, stirring to distribute them evenly.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and level the surface with a spatula.
  8. Bake for about 20-25 minutes. The brownies are ready when the edges appear cooked but the center is still slightly soft to the touch.
  9. Let the brownies cool completely in the pan before cutting them into squares.

Fun Facts

The origin of brownies dates back to the late 19th century in the United States, and one of many legends tells that they were born from a kitchen mistake, when the leavening agent was forgotten in a chocolate cake. The result was so appreciated that it became one of the most famous American desserts in the world.

If you want to give it an Italian touch, you could add a splash of amaretto liqueur to the batter for a richer flavor and a hint of bitterness that pairs well with chocolate.
