Chicken Drumsticks with Mustard and Bacon

Here’s a recipe to prepare delicious Chicken Drumsticks with Mustard and Bacon, with an Italian touch in the seasoning.

Ingredients

  • 4 chicken drumsticks
  • 100 g bacon slices
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon whole grain mustard
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 1 sprig of fresh rosemary (or 1 teaspoon dried rosemary)
  • 1/2 glass of white wine
  • Salt and pepper to taste.

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 °C.
  2. Prepare a marinade by mixing the two types of mustard with the extra virgin olive oil, finely chopped garlic, chopped rosemary (if fresh) and a pinch of salt and pepper.
  3. Brush the chicken drumsticks with the prepared marinade, making sure it is well distributed over the entire surface.
  4. Wrap each drumstick with one or two slices of bacon, depending on the size, ensuring they adhere well.
  5. Arrange the chicken drumsticks in a baking dish and pour the white wine on the bottom of the dish.
  6. Bake and cook for about 45 minutes or until the chicken is well golden and crispy. During cooking, baste the drumsticks occasionally with the cooking juices.
  7. Once ready, remove the chicken drumsticks from the oven and let them rest for a few minutes before serving.

For a more Italian touch, you could accompany them with a side of oven-baked potatoes flavored with rosemary and sage.

Trivia

The bacon wrapped around the chicken drumsticks not only adds flavor but also helps keep the meat juicy during cooking. Mustard, a typical ingredient in French cuisine, pairs well with the bold taste of bacon, creating a very pleasant balance of flavors on the palate.
