Chicken in Soy Sauce with Steamed Vegetables
17/11/2023Preparing chicken in soy sauce with steamed vegetables is a great way to have a healthy and tasty meal. Here’s the recipe for you:
Ingredients
- 400 g chicken breast
- 200 g mixed vegetables (for example broccoli, carrots, zucchini)
- 3 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil (optional)
- 1 tablespoon honey or brown sugar
- 1 clove of garlic
- 1 piece of fresh ginger
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Sesame seeds (optional for garnish)
Preparation
-
Start by cutting the chicken breast into uniform bite-sized pieces and set them aside.
-
Prepare a marinade by mixing in a bowl the soy sauce, sesame oil, honey or brown sugar, finely chopped garlic and grated ginger. If you prefer a milder flavor, you can reduce the amount of soy sauce.
-
Add the chicken pieces to the bowl with the marinade and let them marinate for at least 30 minutes in the refrigerator.
-
Meanwhile, clean and cut the vegetables into pieces that are not too small. Prepare a pot for steaming or use a bamboo steamer, and steam the vegetables until they are tender but still crispy, for about 5-7 minutes.
-
Heat a pan or a wok, add a drizzle of vegetable oil and sauté the chicken pieces over medium-high heat until cooked and slightly caramelized on the outside, this should take about 7-8 minutes.
-
At this point, also add the remaining marinade to the pan and let the chicken absorb more flavor and the sauce reduce slightly, forming a glaze.
-
Serve the chicken in soy sauce hot accompanied by the steamed vegetables. Garnish with sesame seeds if desired and, if you want to add a fresh touch, some chopped fresh cilantro.
Fun Fact
Steaming vegetables keeps their nutritional properties intact and enhances the natural flavor of the foods, making this dish a balanced and healthy choice. Soy sauce, of Chinese origin, is widely used in various variants also in Japanese and Korean cuisine, and pairs very well with the steaming typical of these cuisines.
