Giraffe Cake
17/11/2023The giraffe cake is a fun dessert to prepare, especially with children, thanks to its decoration that resembles a giraffe’s coat. Here’s how to make it!
Ingredients
- 300 g 00 flour
- 300 g granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 150 ml seed oil (such as sunflower or corn)
- 150 ml milk
- 1 packet baking powder
- 1 pinch of salt
- Vanilla extract or vanillin
- Unsweetened cocoa powder (about 30-40 g)
- Yellow food coloring (for flavor, you can also use turmeric powder if you prefer a more natural option)
Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 180 °C.
- Separate the egg yolks from the whites. Beat the whites to stiff peaks with a pinch of salt and set aside.
- In another bowl, beat the yolks with the sugar until the mixture is pale and frothy.
- Gradually add the oil while continuing to beat. Then incorporate the milk and a few drops of vanilla extract or vanillin.
- Sift the flour with the baking powder and fold it into the egg mixture, alternating with the beaten egg whites. Mix gently from the bottom up to avoid deflating the batter.
- Divide the batter into two portions. To one, add the sifted cocoa powder and stir until uniform in color. To the other, add the yellow food coloring or turmeric and mix well.
- Take a round cake pan (or a giraffe-shaped one if you have it), grease and flour it, then pour alternating spoonfuls of the yellow batter and the cocoa batter to create a marbled effect reminiscent of giraffe spots.
- Use a skewer or the tip of a knife to draw lines or curves between the two batters to enhance the spotted effect.
- Bake for about 35-40 minutes or until a skewer inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Remove from the oven and let cool completely before serving.
