Harlequin Cake
17/11/2023The Harlequin cake is a colorful dessert that recalls the costume of Harlequin from the Commedia dell’Arte, full of multicolored diamonds. It is perfect for celebrating Carnival or to bring joy to any party. Here is the recipe.
Ingredients
- 200 g of 00 flour
- 200 g of soft butter
- 200 g of sugar
- 4 eggs
- 1 packet of baking powder
- Food coloring (red, green, yellow, blue)
- 1 tablespoon of unsweetened cocoa powder
- A pinch of salt
Preparation
- Take a large bowl and beat the soft butter with the sugar until you obtain a smooth and fluffy mixture.
- Add the eggs, one at a time, continuing to work the batter with an electric whisk or hand mixer.
- Once each egg is incorporated, add the sifted flour with the baking powder and a pinch of salt, mixing gently so as not to deflate the mixture.
- Divide the resulting batter into several bowls, as many as the colors you wish to use.
- Add a small amount of food coloring to each bowl (and the cocoa to one for the brown color) and mix until you achieve vibrant and uniform colors.
- Butter and flour a baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
- Spoon the different colored batters into the pan, alternating them to create the Harlequin effect.
- With the help of a toothpick or fork, you can lightly swirl the colors on the surface to create patterns typical of Harlequin’s costume.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 180 °C for about 40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center of the cake comes out clean.
- Let cool before unmolding and serving.
