Homemade Gocciole

Gocciole are very popular chocolate chip cookies, perfect for breakfast or snack time. Here’s how to make them at home with an Italian twist.

Ingredients

  • 250 grams of 00 flour
  • 125 grams of brown sugar
  • 125 grams of butter at room temperature
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1/2 packet of baking powder
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract (or vanillin)
  • 150 grams of dark chocolate chips

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 °C and prepare a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, cream the softened butter with the brown sugar until you get a creamy mixture.
  3. Add the whole egg and the yolk, then mix well.
  4. Incorporate the vanilla extract and mix again.
  5. In another bowl, sift the flour with the baking powder and salt.
  6. Add the dry ingredients to the butter and egg mixture, and work the dough until you get a homogeneous mixture.
  7. Add the chocolate chips to the dough and distribute them evenly.
  8. Using two spoons or your hands, form balls from the dough and place them on the prepared baking sheet, flattening them slightly; be careful to leave some space between each one because they will spread during baking.
  9. Bake for about 10-12 minutes or until the cookies are golden brown.
  10. Remove the cookies from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Trivia

Gocciole are a classic example of how a simple cookie can become famous thanks to its crunchy texture and generous chocolate chips. Adding high-quality dark chocolate will make a difference in the final result of the cookies.

If you want a more Italian variation, you could replace the brown sugar with granulated sugar and add a grating of organic lemon zest, which will give a fresh aroma to your cookies. Enjoy baking!
