Lemon Chicken Strips

Lemon chicken strips are a simple and tasty dish that combines the freshness of lemon with the tenderness of chicken. Here’s the recipe for you:

Ingredients

  • 400 g chicken breast
  • Flour, as needed to coat the chicken
  • The juice of 1 lemon
  • The grated zest of 1 lemon
  • 1 garlic clove
  • 1 sprig of fresh rosemary
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • 100 ml chicken or vegetable broth
  • Fresh chopped parsley, for garnish

Preparation

  1. Cut the chicken breast into strips, that is, thin and elongated pieces.
  2. Lightly coat the chicken strips with flour.
  3. In a large skillet, heat a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil with the garlic clove and the rosemary sprig. Once the garlic turns golden, remove it along with the rosemary.
  4. Add the floured chicken strips to the pan and brown them over medium-high heat until they are well cooked and crispy on the outside.
  5. Deglaze with the lemon juice, grate some lemon zest over the meat (be careful not to overdo it to avoid making the dish too bitter).
  6. Add the chicken broth, lower the heat and let it cook for a few minutes so that the chicken absorbs the flavors and the sauce reduces slightly.
  7. Adjust salt and pepper to your taste.
  8. Serve the lemon chicken strips sprinkled with fresh chopped parsley.

Trivia

Citrus fruits, and in particular lemon, are often used in Mediterranean cuisine to add a note of freshness and to contrast the sometimes “heavy” flavor of meats. In this dish, lemon not only adds flavor but also helps make the meat more tender and digestible.
