Oven-Baked Breaded Mushrooms
17/11/2023Here is a delicious recipe for preparing oven-baked breaded mushrooms, a lighter variant of the traditional fried version. It is a tasty appetizer or a flavorful side dish that can accompany many dishes.
Ingredients
- 500 g of mushrooms (button or porcini work well)
- 100 g of flour
- 2 eggs
- 200 g of breadcrumbs
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Aromatic herbs to taste (e.g., thyme, rosemary)
- 50 g of grated Parmesan (optional)
- Extra virgin olive oil
Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 180 °C.
- Clean the mushrooms by removing any soil residue with a damp cloth or brush. Avoid rinsing them under running water as they will absorb too much moisture. Slice the mushrooms if necessary.
- Prepare three plates: pour the flour into the first, beat the eggs with salt and pepper in the second, and mix the breadcrumbs with the chopped aromatic herbs and Parmesan in the third, if using.
- Coat each mushroom first in the flour, making sure to remove the excess, then in the beaten egg, and finally in the seasoned breadcrumbs, pressing lightly to help the coating adhere well.
- Arrange the mushrooms on a baking tray lined with parchment paper and drizzle with a little extra virgin olive oil.
- Bake for about 20 minutes or until the coating is golden and crispy, turning the mushrooms halfway through cooking for even browning.
- Remove from the oven and serve the breaded mushrooms while still hot.
Fun Facts
Although using the oven for breading is more common in recipes that aim to reduce fat content, oven-baking enhances the flavor of the mushrooms and makes the coating crispy without requiring large amounts of oil as in frying. This cooking method is perfect for those seeking a healthier alternative while maintaining a satisfying texture.
