Pasta with Bell Peppers, Sausage, and Feta
17/11/2023Pasta with bell peppers, sausage, and feta is a delicious Mediterranean dish that evokes the warm and welcoming flavors of Greece and Italy. Here is a recipe you can follow.
Ingredients
- 320 g of pasta of your choice (penne, fusilli, rigatoni work well)
- 2 bell peppers (red and yellow for color)
- 200 g fresh sausage
- 150 g Greek feta
- 2 garlic cloves
- Extra virgin olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- A pinch of chili flakes (optional)
- Aromatic herbs to taste (basil or oregano, for example)
Preparation
- Start by placing a pot of water on the heat and bring it to a boil for the pasta. Once boiling, salt it and cook the pasta according to the package instructions.
- While the water heats, wash and cut the bell peppers into strips. Slice the garlic cloves.
- In a large skillet, heat a drizzle of oil and add the garlic to sauté until golden. Add the chili flakes if you want a spicy note.
- Remove the casing from the sausage and crumble it into the skillet. Brown the sausage over medium heat until crispy and fully cooked.
- Add the bell peppers to the sausage and cook together until the peppers are soft but still crisp.
- When the pasta is ready, drain it and reserve some of the cooking water.
- Add the pasta to the skillet with the bell peppers and sausage, mixing well to coat.
- If the mixture seems too dry, add a bit of cooking water to make it creamy.
- Crumble the feta over the pasta and stir gently.
- Finally, adjust the salt and pepper and garnish with the fresh aromatic herbs of your choice.
Serve this dish hot, offering an immersion in Mediterranean flavors enriched by a fully Italian twist thanks to the sausage and aromatic herbs. The addition of feta brings a salty and fresh note that balances well with the sweetness of the peppers and the full flavor of the sausage.
Trivia
This dish is a cross between Greek-style pasta and Calabrian-style pasta. Feta and bell peppers are typically Greek ingredients, while the sausage and chili flakes add that touch of southern Italian flavors, particularly from Calabria, where the use of chili and sausage is very common.
