Puff Pastry Jam Swirls

Puff pastry jam swirls are a simple and quick dessert to make, perfect for a indulgent breakfast or snack. Here is the recipe.

Ingredients

  • 1 roll of ready-made rectangular puff pastry
  • 200 g of jam of your choice (strawberry, apricot, cherry, etc.)
  • Powdered sugar for decoration (optional)

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 °C (350 °F).
  2. Gently unroll the puff pastry onto a work surface.
  3. Spread the jam evenly over the surface of the puff pastry, leaving a small border free along the edges to prevent it from leaking during baking.
  4. Roll the puff pastry onto itself from the long side, being careful not to let the jam escape.
  5. Once you have a roll, place it in the fridge for about 15 minutes to harden slightly, which will make cutting easier.
  6. Remove the puff pastry roll from the fridge and cut it into slices about 2 cm thick.
  7. Arrange the swirls on a baking tray lined with parchment paper, leaving a little space between each one.
  8. Bake in the oven for 15-20 minutes or until the swirls are golden and flaky.
  9. Let cool on a wire rack and, if desired, dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Trivia

Puff pastry swirls, also called “palmiers” when made in a more heart-shaped form, are a dessert of French origin that has won over palates all over the world. Their ease of preparation makes them perfect for customizing with various types of jam or even with chocolate or sweet creams.
