Salami and Cheese Pinwheels

Salami and cheese pinwheels are a tasty and practical finger food, ideal for aperitifs, buffets or as an appetizer. The preparation is simple and relatively quick. Here’s the recipe:

Ingredients

  • 1 roll of ready-made rectangular puff pastry
  • 100 g of thinly sliced salami (such as Milano or Napoli)
  • 100 g of thinly sliced or spreadable cheese (such as fontina, emmental or stracchino)
  • 1 egg for brushing (optional)
  • Poppy or sesame seeds for decoration (optional)

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 °C (350 °F) and prepare a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
  2. Roll out the puff pastry on a work surface and evenly distribute the salami slices over the entire surface.
  3. Add the cheese on top of the salami. If using sliced cheese, make sure to cover the salami evenly. If you prefer spreadable cheese, spread it carefully over all the salami slices.
  4. Gently roll the puff pastry onto itself forming a cylinder, being careful not to leave voids or air bubbles. The roll should be tight.
  5. If desired, you can now brush the surface of the roll with a beaten egg to achieve a golden color during baking.
  6. You can sprinkle the roll with poppy or sesame seeds to add crunch and flavor.
  7. With a sharp knife, cut the roll into slices about 1-2 cm thick.
  8. Arrange the pinwheels on the baking tray, leaving a little space between each other.
  9. Bake for about 15-20 minutes or until the pinwheels become golden and crispy.
  10. Remove from the oven and let them cool slightly on a wire rack before serving.

The salami and cheese pinwheels are ready to enjoy! They are excellent both warm and cold, and you can prepare them in advance.
