Salmon Pinwheel Fantasy

Salmon pinwheels are a delicious and easy-to-make appetizer. Here is a basic recipe with an Italian touch.

Ingredients

  • 150g smoked salmon
  • 200g spreadable cheese (such as Philadelphia or similar)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh dill (or chives if you prefer)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4-5 slices of sandwich bread without crust (or sliced bread if you prefer)

Preparation

  1. In a bowl, mix the spreadable cheese with the lemon juice until you obtain a soft, spreadable cream. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  2. Add the chopped dill (or chives) to the cheese cream and mix well.
  3. Lay out the sandwich bread slices and flatten them further with a rolling pin for an even thinner thickness.
  4. Spread a uniform layer of the cheese cream on each bread slice.
  5. Place a slice of smoked salmon on each bread slice so that it covers almost the entire surface.
  6. Gently roll the bread with the salmon into a tight cylinder.
  7. Wrap each cylinder in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to firm up.
  8. After resting, remove the plastic wrap and cut each cylinder into pinwheels about 2 cm thick.
  9. Arrange the pinwheels on a serving plate and serve.

A variation can include adding a bit of honey mustard to the cheese cream, to add a flavor particularly appreciated by Italians.

Trivia
