Sausage in Tomato Sauce

Sausage in tomato sauce is a simple and flavorful dish that lends itself to being enjoyed in various ways, for example, accompanied by good rustic bread or as a pasta sauce. Here is the recipe:

Ingredients

  • 500 g pork sausage
  • 400 g tomato passata
  • 1 onion
  • 1 garlic clove
  • Salt, to taste
  • Pepper, to taste
  • Extra virgin olive oil, to taste
  • Red wine, one glass (optional)
  • Chili pepper (optional, if you like a bit of spice)

Preparation

  1. Start by sautéing the finely chopped onion and garlic in a pan with a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil. Let it brown until the onion is translucent and soft.

  2. Add the sausage. You can cut it into pieces or, if you prefer, keep it whole. Let it brown well on all sides so it seals and retains its internal juices.

  3. (Optional) Deglaze with a glass of red wine and let the alcohol evaporate for a few minutes.

  4. Add the tomato passata, a pinch of salt and pepper to taste. If you like, you can also add a bit of chili pepper for a spicy touch to the dish.

  5. Let everything cook over low heat for about 30-40 minutes, until the sauce has thickened and the sausage is well cooked. Taste occasionally and adjust the salt if necessary.

  6. Once cooked, you can serve the sausage in tomato sauce with rustic bread, as a pasta sauce, or as a main course with a side of steamed or roasted vegetables.
