Seed Crackers
17/11/2023Seed crackers are a healthy and crunchy snack that pairs well with cheeses, pâtés, or simply enjoyed on their own. Here I propose a version with an Italian touch.
Ingredients
- 200 g whole wheat flour (or type 00 flour if you prefer)
- 30 g sesame seeds
- 30 g flax seeds
- 30 g sunflower seeds
- 30 g pumpkin seeds
- 1 teaspoon fine salt
- 4 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
- About 120 ml water (the quantity may vary depending on the flour’s absorption)
- Fresh chopped rosemary (optional for an aromatic touch)
Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 180 °C and prepare a baking tray by lining it with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, all the seeds, the salt and, if you like, some chopped rosemary to give your crackers extra flavor.
- Add the extra virgin olive oil and start mixing.
- Pour the water little by little, starting to knead with your hands or a spoon until you obtain a homogeneous and workable dough, but not too sticky; if necessary add more water or flour.
- Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface until you get a thickness of about 3-5 mm.
- With a pastry wheel or a knife, cut the dough into squares or rectangles of the desired size.
- Transfer the crackers to the prepared baking tray and prick them lightly with a fork to prevent them from puffing up during baking.
- Bake in the oven for about 15-20 minutes or until the crackers become golden and crispy.
- Let cool completely before serving or storing in an airtight container to maintain crispness.
Fun Facts
The seeds used in this recipe are a rich source of essential nutrients, such as Omega-3 fatty acids, fiber, and proteins. The versatility of these crackers lies in the possibility of varying the seeds according to personal tastes or the nutritional properties desired.
