Strawberry Millefoglie

The strawberry millefoglie is a classic and delicious dessert. It is a dessert that combines the crispiness of puff pastry with the sweetness of the cream and the freshness of the strawberries. Here is the recipe:

Ingredients

  • 3 sheets of ready-made puff pastry (about 230 g each)
  • 500 g fresh strawberries
  • 500 ml pastry cream
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting)
  • 300 ml whipping cream
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar

Preparation

  1. Start by preheating the oven to 200 °C.
  2. Roll out the puff pastry sheets and prick them with a fork to prevent them from puffing up too much during baking. Bake them in the oven for about 10-15 minutes or until golden and crispy. Let them cool.
  3. Meanwhile, wash and slice the strawberries. Set them aside.
  4. Whip the cream with the two tablespoons of granulated sugar until stiff and gently mix with the pastry cream to obtain a lighter and frothier cream.
  5. Now, assemble the millefoglie. Place the first layer of puff pastry on a plate and spread one third of the obtained cream on the surface. Add a layer of strawberry slices.
  6. Repeat the process with the other two layers of puff pastry, cream, and strawberries.
  7. Finally, dust the surface of the millefoglie with powdered sugar for a decorative final touch.

Interesting Facts

The millefoglie is a dessert found in various versions throughout Europe, also known as “napoleon” in some countries. Its origin is uncertain, but it has become a classic of French and Italian pastry. The strawberries add a fresh and slightly tangy note that pairs perfectly with the sweetness of the cream.

For an even more Italian touch, you could decorate the millefoglie with a splash of orange liqueur or limoncello over the strawberries to lightly flavor them before assembling the dessert. Enjoy your meal!
