Tiramisu Gelato
17/11/2023Tiramisu gelato is a delicious cold version of the classic Italian dessert. Here is the recipe to prepare tiramisu gelato:
Ingredients
- 250 ml fresh cream
- 250 ml whole milk
- 4 egg yolks
- 100 g granulated sugar
- 1 cup cooled espresso coffee
- 250 g mascarpone
- Ladyfingers as needed
- 2 tablespoons Marsala or coffee, according to preference
- Unsweetened cocoa powder for decoration
Preparation
- In a bowl, beat the egg yolks with the sugar until you obtain a light and frothy mixture.
- Heat the milk in a saucepan until it is almost boiling and then gradually add it to the egg yolk and sugar mixture, stirring constantly.
- Pour the mixture back into the saucepan and cook over low heat, stirring continuously until the cream thickens (without letting it boil to avoid the yolks curdling).
- Transfer the cream to a bowl and let it cool completely, then add the mascarpone and stir until you obtain a homogeneous mixture.
- Incorporate the coffee and Marsala (or additional coffee, if you prefer) into the cream, then set aside.
- Whip the fresh cream until you obtain a frothy and light consistency.
- Gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture.
- Roughly crumble the ladyfingers and add them to the mixture.
- Pour the preparation into a container suitable for freezing.
- Freeze for at least 4-6 hours before serving.
- Before serving, let the gelato soften for a few minutes and sprinkle the surface with unsweetened cocoa powder.
Trivia
The tiramisu is one of the most appreciated Italian desserts in the world and its literal translation “tirami sù” (pick me up) illustrates the feeling of “recovering” thanks to the energetic contribution of the ingredients, such as coffee and mascarpone. This gelato version maintains the original spirit of the dessert but with a pleasant freshness ideal for the hot seasons.
Happy preparation and enjoy!
