Tuna in Pistachio Crust
17/11/2023Pistachio-crusted tuna is a simple yet very flavorful dish. Here are the ingredients and preparation to make it:
Ingredients
- 4 fresh tuna steaks (about 150-200g each)
- 100g shelled unsalted pistachios
- 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Grated zest of 1 lemon (optional)
- Aromatic herbs (such as thyme or rosemary, optional)
Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 200 °C.
- Finely chop the pistachios in a food processor or with a knife, until you get a not too fine crumble.
- In a bowl, mix the pistachio crumble with a pinch of salt, pepper and if desired, add the grated lemon zest and chopped aromatic herbs for a more aromatic flavor.
- Pat the tuna steaks dry with paper towels and lightly brush them with extra virgin olive oil on both sides.
- Place the tuna steaks in the pistachio crumble, pressing lightly so that it adheres well on all sides.
- Heat a non-stick pan and add a drizzle of oil. Sear the tuna steaks over high heat for 1-2 minutes per side to create a golden crust.
- Transfer the steaks to a baking tray lined with parchment paper and bake for about 5-7 minutes, or until the desired degree of doneness. Remember that tuna is best if left somewhat pink inside.
- Remove from the oven and let the steaks rest for a couple of minutes before serving.
Serve the pistachio-crusted tuna with a light side dish, such as a fresh salad or grilled vegetables.
Fun Fact
Red tuna is highly appreciated in Mediterranean cuisine for its intense flavor and firm flesh. Coating it with pistachios not only adds crunch and flavor, but also a beautiful color contrast that makes the dish particularly inviting.
