Turkey Involtini in Sauce

Turkey involtini in sauce are a delicious and flavorful dish. Now I will give you an Italian version of this dish.

Ingredients

  • 4 slices of turkey breast
  • 4 slices of prosciutto
  • 8 sage leaves
  • 4 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 glass of white wine
  • 400 ml of tomato passata
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste
  • Kitchen twine for tying the involtini

Preparation

  1. Lightly flatten the turkey slices with a meat mallet to even out their thickness.
  2. Place one slice of prosciutto and two sage leaves on the surface of each turkey slice. If desired, you can also add a little grated or sliced cheese for an extra touch of flavor.
  3. Roll the turkey slices onto themselves to form involtini and tie each one with kitchen twine to maintain their shape during cooking.
  4. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil and brown the involtini on all sides until golden.
  5. Deglaze with the white wine and let the alcohol evaporate.
  6. Add the tomato passata, salt, and pepper, then cover the pan. Cook over low heat for about 30 minutes. If necessary, add a little water to prevent the sauce from drying out too much.
  7. Once cooked, remove the twine from the involtini and, if needed, adjust the seasoning of the sauce with salt and pepper.

Serve the involtini hot with a little sauce poured over them.

Trivia

Involtini are a very versatile dish format in Italy; they can be made with different types of meat and filled in countless ways. Traditionally in Southern Italy, they are also prepared with the addition of pine nuts and raisins inside the involtini, for a truly special sweet-salty contrast.

Buon appetito!
