Walnut and Chocolate Cake

It’s a pleasure to share the recipe for a delicious walnut and chocolate cake. Here’s how to make it.

Ingredients

  • 150 g 00 flour
  • 150 g sugar
  • 150 g softened butter
  • 200 g dark chocolate
  • 100 g coarsely chopped walnuts
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 packet baking powder
  • 1 pinch of salt

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees C.
  2. Melt the chocolate in a double boiler or in the microwave, being careful not to burn it. Then let it cool slightly.
  3. Cream the softened butter with the sugar in a bowl until you get a creamy and fluffy mixture.
  4. Separate the yolks from the whites. Add the yolks to the butter and sugar mixture one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  5. Incorporate the melted chocolate into the mixture.
  6. Add the sifted flour together with the baking powder and a pinch of salt. Mix well to avoid lumps.
  7. Add the chopped walnuts, stirring to distribute them evenly in the batter.
  8. In another bowl, beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form and then gently fold them into the batter with bottom-up movements to avoid deflating them.
  9. Pour the batter into a cake pan previously buttered and floured.
  10. Bake for about 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center of the cake comes out clean.
  11. Let the cake cool in the pan for a few minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.

The combination of chocolate with walnuts is not only delicious, but also rich in antioxidants thanks to the dark chocolate and omega-3 thanks to the walnuts. A dessert that in its own way can also be considered a bit “healthy”.
