Fried Whole Wheat Puff Pastries
17/11/2023Here is a simple recipe for preparing fried whole wheat puff pastries. This snack can be considered a crunchy and flavorful aperitif, a rustic variant of the classic puff pastry.
Ingredients
- 1 roll of whole wheat puff pastry
- Seed oil for frying
- Powdered sugar (optional, for a sweet version)
- Fine salt (optional, for a savory version)
- Spices of your choice (optional, such as paprika, pepper, chopped aromatic herbs)
Preparation
- Roll out the whole wheat puff pastry and cut it into rectangles or strips, depending on the shape you prefer.
- Heat plenty of seed oil in a pan suitable for frying. The oil is ready when a small piece of pastry dropped in sizzles and rises immediately to the surface.
- Fry the pastries a few at a time, to avoid lowering the oil temperature and to prevent them from sticking together.
- When golden, remove the pastries from the oil with a slotted spoon and let them dry and drain on paper towels.
- Depending on your taste, you can sprinkle the hot pastries with a little fine salt, spices of your choice, or, if you prefer a sweet version, with powdered sugar once cooled.
Note: Whole wheat puff pastry can also be made at home by mixing whole wheat flour, water, a pinch of salt, and butter, but it requires time and some skill to achieve thin layers and good flakiness.
